Jon Tomkins is a Director of City Sightseeing Perth, the open top bus tour company that is connected to the City Sightseeing World Wide network. With their bus tour, tourists can get a world class tour of Perth’s breathtaking blue river, many historic and sparkling new modern buildings, and lush parklands.
Like any other business owner, Jon’s main goal is to make sure his business runs smoothly and all vehicles stay running.
But he had a problem – he was in the process of merging 3 brands into one company, and they were all on different booking systems. One of his businesses, Fremantle Trams, was already using Rezdy, while City Sightseeing Perth was using a semi-automated system with manual payment processing.
Jon wanted to make things simple – so he was faced with the challenge of choosing the best booking system for all three of his businesses. But when Jon was doing the maths for City Sightseeing Perth, he realised that one of the challenges with any booking system was fixed charges vs commission based.
“In terms of calculating costs, we were on a pay per ticket system, so it was more difficult to understand what it was going to cost us.”

Another issue he had with it was that it was not fully automated.
“It was a semi-automatic booking system. People could request bookings but we had to manually intervene to process bookings and take payments.”
Jon knew that leaving things as is would only slow his business down in terms of cash flow and staff productivity.
“There was a pressure on us to go through requests as quickly as possible because the majority of our products are booked 48 hours before the tour date. As a result, we were spending too much time answering the phone to process bookings.”

To streamline his businesses, a decision needed to be made to select the booking system that would make things easier for everyone involved.
“There was not a lot wrong in the way the previous booking system was working, but we had to pick the best system to work with.”
Jon decided that he would use Rezdy because it was already a proven system for his other brand, Fremantle Trams.
“It came down to costs more than anything. Rezdy’s fixed fee payment system gives us a better understanding of what it’s going to cost us.”

Rezdy has provided City Sightseeing Perth with a hassle-free way to accept online bookings.
“Rezdy allowed automatic payment, so that in itself encouraged us to go down that road. Having all bookings fully automated certainly removes a lot of aggravation and frees up man hours. The pressure to get bookings processed is now gone because customers just take care of themselves.”

Jon has also found working with Rezdy’s Support Team to be a positive experience.
“Compared to some others, Rezdy’s Support Team are pretty quick and efficient. But since the system has been up we’ve hardly had to contact them.”
With Rezdy, Jon is able to eliminate the manual part of the payment process – all without sacrificing a chunk of revenue per ticket. All in all, he is happy with his decision.
“I like the simplicity of Rezdy – it has a fixed fee, a simple and clean layout, and in terms of functionality the booking integrates smoothly with what we’ve got.”
